Agape History

Agape Evangelistic Ministries, C.O.G.I.C., was organized in Leesville, Louisiana by Elder Ronald Jones and Evangelist Walita Jones in July 1988. The ministry had its humble beginning in a storefront building, at 104 East Texas Street, Leesville, Louisiana, as a Christian Outreach Center. The Center was used for clothes giveaways, distribution of food to the needy, senior citizen luncheons, witnessing within the community and ministering to lost souls. The Lord began to move in a mighty way and other families became involved in the work and souls were saved. The first worship service was held on Sunday, September 4, 1988.

In December 1988, the ministry moved from the storefront to the sanctuary at 604 South 4th Street in Leesville. The Lord blessed the ministry and many military families that became members of Agape while stationed at Fort Polk. Pastor Jones realized having a church in a military community was a very unique ministry because the church was in constant transition. Since Pastor Jones was retired from the military he understood that the military family had very special needs. The church becomes their family because they are away from their natural families. The entire ministry of Agape is centered on meeting the needs of the whole person and the whole family.

In August 1993 the Church property was purchased to include the sanctuary, a guesthouse and fellowship hall. In 1998 and 2000, the church purchased additional property on each side of the sanctuary and fellowship hall. The Lord spoke to Pastor Jones in 2002 to prepare to build a new house for the sanctuary. The Vision began to unfold and on April 15, 2004 the ground was broken for the "Sanctuary of Hope". On Resurrection Sunday, March 27, 2005, the first worship service was held. The Lord led the Pastor to have a month of Consecration during the month of April 2005. On Sunday, April 24, 2005 the Sanctuary of Hope was dedicated by Bishop Roy L. H. Winbush, Prelate, First Jurisdiction of Louisiana.

Pastor Jones and the Agape Family are so grateful to God who has always been faithful. The Ministry has been through the fire and through the flood, the storms have risen and the billows have rolled, but through it all the Saints learned to trust in Jesus.

We are persuaded that He that has begun a good work in Agape will perform it until the day of our Lord.

Winning the battle

The Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit. When Jesus was in the desert after His baptism both He and Satan quoted the written word while engaging in spiritual warfare. It is needed for us to have a good and full knowledge of God's Word. We do this by asking the Lord's wisdom while reading and studying the Bible. Unfortunately most people who call themselves Christians have not read the New Testament even one time. Many go to church every Sunday for an hour, have spent years reading other books, and have spent no time reading the Bible. How do you know that what you are being taught is accurate if you don't look to see yourself? Obviously with all the different doctrines being taught by different churches they could not all be accurate. We need to know what to do in our lives. Is it any wonder that so many of us have such problems in our lives as we do?

A man named Anton Levey in San Francisco founded the Church of Satan. The Satanic Bible can now be purchased in bookstores in most every city. Members of the Church of Satan are required to memorize this book. When they face spiritual warfare they are ready. They are committed to protect what they claim by boundary. They know the importance of unity in winning the battle. What does it say about our dedication to Jesus if we will not read His word to understand His instructions? Should we not rather be continually reading the Holy Bible throughout our lives?

When people start studying God's Word to learn more they come under spiritual attack. This will take whatever Reading the Bible and Praying needs to be a constant part of our lives. Reading God's Word feeds our spirit and gives us an accurate understanding of His will. Praying keeps us centered with the things concerning our Heavenly Family instead of the things of this world.

There once was a rich man who was near death. He was very grieved because he had worked so hard for his money and wanted to be able to take it with him to heaven. So he began to pray that he might be able to take some of his wealth with him.

An angel heard his plea and appeared to him. "Sorry, but you can't take your wealth with you."

The man begged the angel to speak to God to see if He might bend the rules. The man continued to pray that his wealth could follow him.

The angel reappeared and informed the man that God had decided to allow him to take one suitcase with him. Overjoyed, the man gathered his largest suitcase and filled it with pure gold bars and placed it beside his bed.

Soon afterward, he died and showed up at the gates of heaven to greet St. Peter.

St. Peter, seeing the suitcase, said, "Hold on, you can't bring that in here!"

The man explained to St. Peter that he had permission and asked him to verify his story with the Lord.

Sure enough, St. Peter checked it out, came back and said, "You're right. You are allowed one carry-on bag, but I'm supposed to check its contents before letting it through."

St. Peter opened the suitcase to inspect the worldly items that the man found too precious to leave behind and exclaimed, "You brought pavement?"

"The great street of the city of heaven was of pure gold..."
- Revelation 21:21

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust can destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
- Matthew 6:19-21
